the grades in calligraphy art, like in most Japanese traditional arts - are divided into 2 categories: beginners (in Japanese: Kyū), which counts backward from 10 to 1; and experts & masters (in Japanese: Dan), which counts foreward from 1 (Beginner Dan) to 10.
The characters here are listed according the writing skills: from left to right, from top to down - from the easiest to the reletively hardest ones.
